College men’s tennis: UCI edged

Brian Morton and Dontia Haynes posted singles victories for the

Anteaters, but UC Irvine was defeated by visiting BYU, 4-3, in a

nonconference men’s tennis match Wednesday.

Haynes earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the No. 5 spot while Morton picked

up his fifth straight win at No. 6 with a 7-6, 6-4 triumph for the

Anteaters (3-5).

Morton teamed with Jon Endrikat to pick up an 8-4 doubles win over

BYU’s Carlos Lozano and Gert Vilms, ranked 10th in doubles by the

Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Morton and Endrikat are ranked 27th.

UCI’s No. 3 doubles team of Haynes and Wkwesi Williams paired to earn

a 9-8 victory with a 7-5 advantage in the tiebreaker.

BYU improves to 2-5.
