Community college men’s basketball: Pirates still struggling
RIVERSIDE - The Orange Coast College men’s basketball team lost its
10th Orange Empire Conference game after an 84-71 setback to host
Riverside Wednesday.
The Pirates (6-21, 3-10 in the OEC) had three players score in double
figures, Ryan Webster (15 points), Brian Williams (13) and Duy Tran (12),
but they also also had three players foul out, Mark Meyers, Dave Retzlaff
and Williams.
Riverside (24-8, 9-4) completed the season series sweep of the Pirates
by outscoring OCC, 44-28, in the first half. In addition, Tiger sophomore
Ronald Roundtree scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed a game-high 11
rebounds.
The Tigers shot 58.3% from the field in the first half to take
command, while the Pirates struggled, shooting 34.6%. OCC also had a bad
night from the free-throw line, making 12 of 29 from the foul line
(41.4%), and the Tigers were 21 for 33 (63.6%).
OCC returns to conference action Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Santa Ana, a
team the Pirates defeated in the first round of OEC play.
