College softball: Lions blank Albertson, twice

COSTA MESA - The Vanguard softball team swept visiting Albertson

College in a nonconference doubleheader Thursday. The Lions (12-5-1)

opened with a 3-0 victory and then went on to a 13-0 win to close out the

day.

Gina Liebengood earned her sixth win of the season with a two-hit

shutout with nine strikeouts, as Vanguard scored three runs in the fifth

inning to grab the 3-0 victory. Lisa Jackson and Ashley Mauro collected

two hits and one RBI each for the Lions.

Jenny Willis was next in the circle for Vanguard and she earned her

second win of the season, scattering six hits in the 13-0 victory.

Vanguard pounded out 11 hits and took advantage of five Coyote errors.

Jessica Thompson and Alison Smidt contributed two hits each for the

Lions, while Thompson picked up four RBIs and Jill Ramsey had three RBIs.

Albertson College dropped to 0-6.
