again

NEWPORT BEACH - The Toshiba Senior Classic Scholarship Fund, in its
third year, is expanding again to benefit more high schools.
The scholarships, which include a $2,500 grant and Toshiba computer,
will be presented to one senior from each of the four high schools in the
Newport-Mesa School District, among other schools.
In the scholarship’s inaugural year, it benefited five schools in the
Irvine Unified School District. Both districts had recipients in 2001 and
this year scholarships will be awarded to 14 Orange County high school
seniors, one from each high school in the Newport-Mesa, Irvine,
Saddleback Valley and Huntington Beach school districts.
The Toshiba Senior Classic Scholarship Fund has doubled in size,
benefiting twice as many students as last year.
“The legacy of the Toshiba Senior Classic is its meaningful impact on
local charity, and we can think of no better investment in this community
than to support standout students who demonstrate strong leadership
potential,” Rod Keller of Toshiba Computer Systems Group said.
The eighth annual $1.5 million Toshiba Classic has raised more than
$3.7 million for charity in its four years under the direction of Hoag
Hospital.
The program is a joint effort by the tournament title sponsor and
managing charity, Hoag Hospital.
Students are recognized at the annual Toshiba Senior Classic Community
Breakfast (March 5).To be considered, applicants must be a high school
senior, rank in the upper half of their graduating class, receive two
recommendations from school representatives, and demonstrate leadership
and/or involvement in extracurricular activities or community service.
Each school has been asked to nominate at least two candidates.
