SATURDAY

The final walking nature tour of the season exploring the Upper

Newport Bay Ecological Reserve will take place between 9 a.m. and 10:15

a.m. The guided tours will last about two hours and will leave every 15

minutes. They will begin at the corner of East Bluff Drive and Back Bay

Road and cover about a mile of the upper bay. All tours move at an easy

pace on a paved route, but comfortable shoes are recommended. A bird book

and binoculars are also suggested to enhance the experience of the

The UC Irvine Arboretum will host its annual Winter Bulb Festival,

“Prelude to Spring” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sunday. The festival will showcase the arboretum’s collection of South

African winter bulbs along with other plantings of hybrid bulbs such as

daffodils and tall bearded iris. The festival will also include a plant

The 19th annual Spirit Run presented by Blue Cross of California will

Orange Coast College’s 19th annual High School Senior Day will take

APRIL 17

A five-day fall cruise to the Northern Channel Islands will be

conducted by the Orange Coast College School of Sailing and Seamanship.

The 300-mile cruise will depart at 5 p.m. April 17 and return at the same

time April 21. Designed for sailors with at least intermediate level

sailing skills, crew members will be expected to participate in the

ship’s operations. An active cruise has been planned, filled with sailing

to new islands and anchorages, hiking and exploring ashore. The fee is
