Youth soccer: Costa Mesa boys win Area Q title

COSTA MESA - The Costa Mesa, Region 120 boys under-14 All-Star team

earned first place in Area Q play this season and will be in the Southern

California Sectionals this weekend at Arbor Park in Los Alamitos at 4665

Lampson.

Saturday’s games, in a field which includes Moorpark and San Diego

County, are 9:45 am. and 2 pm. Sunday’s games are at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The squad led the field, compiling a record of 6-2-2 under the

direction of Coach Jose Guitierrez and grabbing wins over teams from

Newport Beach, Irvine, Tustin and Corona Del Mar.

Superb offensive play was sparked by Eric West, Danny Alderete, Avan

Bueno, Marco Soto, Jose Perez, Ryan Pfautz, Brian Henriquez, Marc Nutter,

Josh Hendrickson and Luis Zeyala.

The team scored 26 goals during the 10-game season and also featured a

strong defense supported by Ernesto Casteneda, Shawn Engmann, Mick

Miettinen and Nick Straubel. They were vital in allowing only 12 goals,

as was goalkeeper Matt Pisarski, who saved numerous shots.
