WHAT HAPPENED:

City Council voted to postpone voting on a planning department

proposal that would rezone four properties to bring them in compliance

with the city’s general plan until the next City Council meeting on March

18.

WHAT IT MEANS:

Under the proposal, The McClellan Park Boys and Girls Club on Delaware

Street would be rezoned from residential medium density to an open

space-park and recreation designation. The Church of Jesus Christ of

Latter Day Saints on 17th Street would switch from residential medium

density to public-semipublic use. A water operations yard on Huntington

Street would be changed from limited industrial use to public-semipublic

use. Finally, the Rodgers Senior’s Center would be rezoned from open

space-park and recreation use to public-semipublic use.

Vote: 4-0

IN FAVOR / AGAINST

WHAT HAPPENED:

City Council repealed an ordinance in the city’s charter that

designates a portion of the land between Ellis and Garfield avenues and

Edwards and Goldenwest streets in Huntington Beach to be used for a

neighborhood park. They did so as part of a legal agreement.

WHAT IT MEANS:

In 1995 the city designated a park site within this area.

But a group of four property owners sued the city, alleging the city

illegally took their land.

The property owners dropped the suit and the city must pay the a total

of $75,000 and give the lots back to the property owners.

Vote: 4-0

IN FAVOR / AGAINST

WHAT HAPPENED: City Council approved a contract between the city and

Maximus, Inc. to recruit someone to fill the vacancy that will be left by

Police Chief Ron Lowenberg, who is retiring in October.

WHAT IT MEANS:

The city will transfer $30,000 from the police account to the city

administrator’s office to pay Maximus.

A final selection is expected to be recommended to the City Council by

late summer.

Vote: 4-0
