SATURDAY

The Surf City All-Star band will perform at Golden West College’s

fifth annual fund-raising gala. The event will begin with an auction at

5:30 p.m. and a dinner at 7 p.m. on March 9 at the Hilton Waterfront

Beach Resort, 21100 Pacific Coast Highway. The formal event will raise

money for scholarships instructional tools. Cost is $100 per person or

Author Jack Kates will be available for a book signing. He is the

author of “Don’t You Know It’s 40 Below?” The book is a humorous and

heartwarming memoir about the family of a Jewish immigrant storekeeper in

The Huntington Beach Playhouse is presenting “No Sex Please, We’re

Spencer’s Treasures will host a “Treasure O’Gold” casino fund-raiser

to benefit the Huntington Beach based charity. The fund-raiser casino

night will take place from 7 p.m. to midnight on March 15 at Los

and includes dinner, casino chips, raffle and drink ticket. The nonprofit

organization donates treasure chests of toys on a continuing basis.

The third annual Huntington Beach Restaurant Olympics will take place

from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 16 at Pier Plaza, Pacific Coast Highway and

Main Street. The free event includes a waiter/waitress relay, table

setting for time and perfection, clean water relay, longboard sand

surfing race and birthday song. With a $5 donation guests can taste and

rate 20 different chowders. Proceeds will benefit the Boys and Girls Club

Optimum Boot Camp, a fitness class on the beach, is offering 47

p.m. There is a shortened schedule on weekends. Classes include a

The Huntington Beach Concert Band is an all-volunteer community

organization with approximately 70 members, led by music director Tom

Ridley. Founded in February 1973, the band plays a wide variety of

musical styles -- from classical, to Broadway, to contemporary. They

perform frequently at events and locations throughout Southern

California, including Disneyland, Leisure World, Huntington Beach Pier

Plaza, and Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. The Huntington Beach Concert

Band is open to all interested musicians age 18 and over. Rehearsals are
