Community college baseball: Pirates drop third straight
SANTA ANA - The Orange Coast College baseball team suffered a
frustrating day on the mound and lost its third straight game, a 12-9
setback to Orange Empire Conference host Santa Ana Saturday.
After trailing, 8-0, the Pirates (13-6, 2-4 in the OEC) retaliated
with three runs in the third inning, three in the fourth and two in the
sixth, but still trailed, 9-8. Santa Ana then held off Coast down the
stretch.
OCC sophomore catcher Ryan Hanson went 2 for 4 with a solo home run,
two runs scored and an RBI, while sophomore Jeremy Lahmann finished 2 for
5 with two doubles and two RBIs.
“We’ve just been shooting ourselves in the foot, not taking advantage
of opportunities,” OCC Coach John Altobelli said. “ We get momentum going
and turn around and shoot ourselves in the foot. We’ve had opportunities
to be undefeated in the first round of conference. We’ve been getting
good hitting, but not timely hitting.”
The Pirates will wrap up the first round of conference play Tuesday,
hosting Golden West at 2 p.m.
