Fire engulfs Costa Mesa commercial building
A commercial building near the corner of Whittier Avenue and Brioso
Lane in Costa Mesa went up in flames Sunday night, causing an unknown
amount of damage.
The four-alarm fire, which officials say was called in around 7 p.m.,
lit up the night sky as firefighters from Costa Mesa, Newport Beach,
Santa Ana, Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley tried to put out its
flames.
As of press time, the fire at the building in the Mesa West Business
Park was still not out.
This is the fifth fire in Newport-Mesa in less than two weeks. On Feb.
28, an explosion fire killed 68-year-old Robert Jamison Marshall and
damaged homes at the Monticello Town Homes Complex in Costa Mesa. The
complex suffered an unrelated fire on March 2. On March 3, a tailoring
shop on Newport Boulevard suffered smoke damage from a small fire. And
Thursday, a Lido Isle home was gutted in an early morning fire. Six
inhabitants and a dog escaped that blaze without injury.
