Boys tennis: Tars edged by Artists, 10-8

NEWPORT BEACH - The Newport Harbor High boys tennis team won seven

out of nine singles matches, but lost, 10-8, to nonleague visitor Laguna

Beach Tuesday.

Tyler Deck and Zach Yeager swept in singles play, while Dylan

Espley-Jones won a set for the Sailors (1-1).

Newport returns to action today at 3 p.m., hosting El Toro.

Singles - Espley-Jones (NH) lost to Ferguson, 4-6, def. Paxton, 6-2,

lost to Tron, 3-6; Deck (NH) won, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2; Yeager (NH) won, 7-5,

7-5, 6-3.

Doubles - Uhl-Tweena (NH) lost to Ghenender-Schmitz, 2-6; lost to

Steven-Kovacevic, 4-6, lost to Staero-McMahon, 2-6; Lund-Lutfy (NH) lost,

3-6, won, 6-3, lost, 4-6; D’Eliscu-Davis (NH) lost, 1-6, 2-6, 2-6.
