Sea Kings top Brentwood, 10-8

Corona del Mar High’s boys tennis team did it again on Wednesday,

capturing a close decision on the road against a highly regarded foe, and

it was the “G-Man” who was in command of the Sea Kings’ ship in a 10-8

victory at Brentwood.

“Garrett Snyder,” said his coach, Tim Mang, “he was just awesome

today, just like he was when we beat Brentwood in the tournament last

year. We call him the G-Man.”

Snyder, a junior, swept through his three singles foes, 6-4, 6-0, 6-3,

but he wasn’t the only hero of the day for the unbeaten Sea Kings, who

racked up their sixth straight victory.

After Cameron Ball came through with a big victory in singles despite

nursing a painful shoulder injury, and after Tyson Hunter and Wesley

Miller pulled out two victories in No. 2 doubles, it came down to the

final doubles match of the day.

There, Brennan Roberts and Carsten Ball, who had split their first two

matches, were down, 3-4 and Brentwood was serving. The CdM combination

turned it on and took the last three points to give CdM it’s 10-8

cushion.

Had Brentwood prevailed in that final doubles match it would have

ended 9-9 and Brentwood would have won on games by a three-point margin.

Corona del Mar’s road games continue on Monday when the Sea Kings take

their show to Woodbridge, starting at 3 p.m.
