SCHOOL BOARD WRAP-UP
Here are some of the decisions coming out of the school board meeting
on Tuesday.
WHAT HAPPENED:
The board passed a resolution in favor of a public library adjacent to
Mariners Elementary School in Newport Beach.
WHAT IT MEANS:
Newport Beach officials have already approved funding for the
library’s design while a fund-raising group is trying to score $1 million
by the summer.
WHAT THEY SAID:
“It will obviously be an advantage to Mariners School, but will be
available for all students in the district,” said Supt. Robert Barbot.
Vote:
7-0
WHAT HAPPENED:
The board received preliminary enrollment projections for 2002-03.
WHAT IT MEANS:
Newport Coast Elementary in Newport Beach will experience the largest
growth with a projected increase of 109 students.
WHAT THEY SAID:
“We can’t tell you the numbers make sense because we can’t see a
trend,” said Mike Fine, assistant superintendent.
