Boys volleyball: Sailors win twice

HUNTINGTON BEACH - The Newport Harbor High boys volleyball team won

its first two pool-play matches Friday in the Orange County Championships

at Edison High.

The Sailors defeated Esperanza, 15-10, 15-8, then outlasted San

Clemente, 15-10, 10-15, 15-12.

Newport completes pool play today and, should it finish in the top two

in its pool, will advance to the quarterfinals. Semifinals will also be

held Saturday at Edison, with the final scheduled Monday night at the

same site.

Greg Perrine had 12 kills, Brian Gaeta nine and Erik Peterson seven

against Esperanza.

Against San Clemente, Peterson had 14 kills, Perrine 13 and Gaeta 10.
