Prep baseball: Mustangs gone with the wind, lose, 3-1
CAPISTRANO VALLEY - In what Costa Mesa High Coach Kirk Bauermeister
called a strange game, the Mustangs baseball team lost, 3-1, to host
Capistrano Valley, in the final game of the Newport Elks Tournament
Saturday.
“The wind was howling,” Bauermeister said. “There was not a ball hit
in the air that went to the outfield. We had the only hit to the
outfield, (a ground ball) that went between shortstop and third base.
The Mustangs (4-4) finished with two hits, as Nick Cabico collected
one off a bunt and Derek Garcia provided the aforementioned grounder.
Capistrano Valley improved to 4-2.
Mesa returns to Pacific Coast League action Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.,
playing at Northwood.
