THE LAST WORD

The Toshiba Senior Classic golf tournament couldn’t have hoped for

better results last week. Not only did the weather cooperate, but the sun

also shined on the donation presented to Hoag Hospital.

For the third consecutive year -- a Senior Tour record -- the event

raised $1 million, which was sent to the hospital for its Women’s

Pavilion.

Given the economic climate this year, the grand sum should be even

more appreciated. Since Hoag became the tournament’s lead charity five

years ago, the event has raised $4.7 million for it.

Overall, we once again appreciate and praise the event for its

generous donation and for providing a wonderful show, one that Hale Irwin

-- now a two-time Toshiba champion -- has again bested.
