Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Long Vu recently graduated from the

Navy’s Basic Nuclear Power School at Naval Nuclear Power Training

Command, Goose Creek, S.C. During the six-month course Vu’s training

included instruction in technical fields related to the nuclear power

program. Vu is prepared to operate a reactor on a nuclear-powered

submarine or aircraft carrier. He is the son of Ngoc and Xuan Tran of

Huntington Beach. He is a 2000 graduate of Edison High School. . . .

Huntington Beach residents Mike Ali and Shellie McGilvra are finalists in

the 2001 Service Excellence Awards from the Orange County Tourism

Council. Ali owns Zack’s Pier Plaza and McGilvra is a food server and

hostess at Chimayo at the Beach. Another finalist is Hilton Waterfront

Beach Resort and Spa wedding planner Stephanie Jernigan. Winners will be

announced at the fourth annual Service Excellence Tourism Awards on April

1. . . . Camille Rustia of Huntington Beach was named to the Dean’s List

of Emory College in Atlanta, Ga. for the 2001 fall semester. Students

must be in the top 20% of Emory College or have about a 3.788 grade-point

average or higher to be named to the Dean’s List. Rustia is the daughter

of Benedicto and Rosalinda Pada Rustia.
