Boys and girls track and field: CdM girls open PCL with statement

IRVINE - The Corona del Mar High girls track and field team, the

defending Pacific Coast League champion, opened league competition with a

resounding 82-54 victory over host Northwood Thursday.

The Sea King boys squad lost to the Timberwolves, 82-54.

Julie Allen (first in the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200 meter races), Becky

Cummins (second in 800, 1,600 and 3,200) and Melissa Swigert (first in

200, 400 and both relays) turned in their usual high-level performances,

Coach Bill Sumner said, while the rest of the Sea Kings swept in the long

jump and the pole vault.

Jaclyn Thayer led a sweep in the long jump, which included Alison

Brawner followed by Stephanie Kendrick, and Krisserin Canary was first in

the pole vault sweep, that included Carina Weber and Vanessa

Chulapatrcheevin.

The CdM boys were led by Chris Carpenter and Chris Ringstrom.

Carpenter was a double winner (110 and 300 hurdles), while Ringstrom made

his debut in the sprints, winning the 100 and finishing third in the 200.
