Mad Dogs, Red Wings advance to title game

The Mad Dogs and Red Wings emerged this week with key wins in

postseason play and will face each other this weekend in a battle for the

Smythe West Division title, as championship week play continues.

The fourth-seeded Mad Dogs, who finished in fourth place during the

regular season, collected two wins this past week.

First, they defeated the Jaguars, 5-2, as Chad Morris scored two

goals, Nicholas Modrak, Zach Gillespie and Nicholas Estrada each scored

once and Carsten Beith and Zachary Dubin each had an assist.

Zachary Dixon scored once with an assist, Dylan Dongird scored once

and Richard Killian had an assist for the fifth-seeded Jaguars.

The Mad Dogs’ next victim was the second-seeded Lightning, who were

upended by an 8-4 score.

Morris again led the way with three goals and an assist, Kyle Betz

scored twice and also had two assists, Christian Beith scored once with

an assist and Modrak and Dubin each scored once.

The Lightning received two goals each from Austin Harms and Travis

Beckman and an assist by Stephen Marchand.

In other games:

Red Wings 6, Menehunes 2

The No. 1 seeded Red Wings, who finished first during the regular

season, advanced to the division final by defeating the sixth-seeded

Menehunes.

Alex Litten led the Red Wings’ attack with three goals and an assist.

Cody McWhirter netted two goals and also collected two assists, Matthew

Kibler scored once, Craig Landon had two assists and Darrell McDonald

recorded 17 saves.

Austin Gracia scored both goals for the Menehunes.

Menehunes 6, Biscuits 4

Despite finishing in sixth place during the regular season, the

Menehunes did manage to win their first postseason game as they

eliminated the Biscuits, the division’s No. 3 seed.

They did so behind the offensive prowess of Gracia, who scored all six

of his team’s goals, four of which were set up by Marcus Kurth assists.

Tip Donaldson had 33 saves for the Menehunes.

Will Chakalian led the Biscuits with two goals.
