Susan Prohal, of Huntington Beach, has been selected a recipient of

the University of Notre Dame Alumni Assn.’s 2001-02 Distinguished

Graduate Student Award. Prohal is a 1999 graduate of Notre Dame. She

majored in government and international studies and Spanish. She joined

the Jesuit Volunteer Corps after graduation and has worked with the

Northwest Justice Project assisting low-income residents of Washington

state with free civil legal services. Prohal is currently a second-year

law student at Notre Dame. . . . Matthew Hurley, 18, from Troop 568 in

Huntington Beach, has earned The Eagle Scout Award, the highest

advancement in the Boy Scouts of America. To earn the Eagle rank, a scout

must earn 21 merit badges, have leadership in the troop and have

successfully completed an approved community service project. Hurley’s

project was at Golden View Elementary School where he organized and

raised funds for the construction of four rabbit houses. Hurley is a

student at Servite High School in Anaheim. He is the son of Brian and

Cindy Hurley. . . . Air National Guard Airman Joseph Westa has graduated

from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio,

Texas. During his six weeks of training he learned instruction in the Air

Force mission, customs, physical training and special training in human

relations. He is the son of Jon and Debbie Westa of Huntington Beach. . .
