College athletic academics: Vanguard women’s basketball players

standout in classroom

COSTA MESA - Six players from the Vanguard women’s basketball team

have been recognized by the Golden State Athletic Conference and the

National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for their elite

performance in the classroom and on the basketball court.

Erin Edmiston, Kelly Boeke, Jessica Lenderman, and Beth Weidler are

second-time Academic All-GSAC and NAIA Scholar Athlete honorees for the

basketball team.

Robbin Dittenbir and Courtney McKinney have met the requirements for

the recognition for the first time in their career.

Edmiston, a senior, accumulated a 3.66 grade point average in the

Liberal Studies program at Vanguard. This was her second year at Vanguard

since transferring from Saddleback College.

Boeke, a four-year Lion from Fountain Valley High School, excelled in

the English department and carried a 3.60 GPA in the classroom.

Weidler has had an outstanding three-sport four-year athletic career.

This is her fourth NAIA Scholar-Athlete award as she heads into her final

season of competition for track and field this spring. She has a 3.60 GPA

as Liberal Studies major while participating in Cross Country,

Basketball, and Track and Field for the Lions.

Lenderman just completed her third season of competition for the

Lions, but is a senior academically with a perfect 4.0 GPA in the

Exercise Sport Science program. Lenderman plans to return for her final

season next year and enroll in the Vanguard Credential program.

Dittenbir and McKinney are juniors academically and both are

three-year players for the Lions. Dittenbir is a Liberal Studies major

and has a 3.56 GPA, while McKinney has earned a 3.50 as a student in the

Biology program.
