Coming off the Mayor’s Cup tournament championship it won earlier in

the month, the South Coast Pier Pressure girls’ soccer team continued its

strong play as it won the OCU Invitational.

Pier Pressure won the tournament title Sunday by edging host OCU Rush,

2-1, in the final.

Kaitlyn Schuesler’s early goal gave Pier Pressure a 1-0 lead and late

in the second half Brooke Bashore pushed across another goal to put the

game out of reach.

A late ricochet in the final two minutes of play allowed OCU Rush to

avoid being shutout.

Pier Pressure’s strong defensive effort was led by keeper Dana Clark,

sweeper Alex Dunn and Keely Miller, Erin Benton, Jessica Jordan and

Chelsea Kaplan.

Midfielders Lindsay McMahon, Kelly Hyder, Marissa Reino and Rebecca

Sheffield controlled the tournament games in which Pier Pressure played

and they were able to set up halfbacks Cuyla Coogan, Candace Mecklenburg

and Kaitlyn Schuesler and strikers Bashore and Loren Kortizija.
