Little League: Giants survive run-fest, 12-11

Beau Attyah slammed two home runs and collected three RBIs, and

Jamie Heinecke crushed one homer to go with his three runs scored to help

the Giants outlast the Angels, 12-11, in Newport Beach Little League AAA

Division action.

The Giants’ Michael Hayed scored the gamewinning run in the bottom of

the sixth and final inning. Hayde singled for the third time in the game,

then stole second and also stole third. Mitch Gardner chipped a slow

rolling groundball toward third base, which allowed Hayde to score and

end the game.

The Angels thrived on a two-out rally, responding to an 11-7 deficit

with four runs.

The Giants received additional offensive support from Eric Chebil, who

contributed two hits and two runs scored. Heinecke and Jack Gerdau also

helped out in the win with their work on the mound.

Kyle Warsaw, who singled and walked twice, provided a lift for the

Angels’ offense, while shortstop Brian Hurst led the defense.

In NBLL Majors Division action:

Giants 4, Mariners 3 - With two outs in the last inning, the Giants’

Joe Eberhard lined a triple to left field to drive in Colfax Shelby to

tie the score, and Kevin Kottke finished the rally, scoring the winning

run.

Eberhard and Kottke crushed two hits each, while Shelby, Kendall Pick

and Max Prescott each contributed singles for the Giants.

Pitching by Eberhard and Matt Wheatley also allowed the Giants to win,

while Nick Klein scored a run and made an outstanding defensive play.

In NBLL AAA Division action:

Braves 13, Dodgers 3 - David Guibord and Nick Flamson combined for

eight strikeouts in six innings of work on the mound. David Weiland led

the Braves’ bats, hitting the cycle and scoring three runs. Benny

Townsend and Steven Bruno also added offense in the Braves’ win.

The Braves’ pitching received help from Jarrett Logan, who had a solo

double play at first base, and Dylan Salisbury, Michael Franklin, Austin

Allen and Michael Delahanty also provided defensive support.

Joey Both, who finished with two hits, led the Dodgers, while Emery

Molnar’s fielding helped the defense.
