June gloom arrives early

The gloomy weather is expected to last at least a week, meteorologists

predicted Monday.

Although Newport-Mesa is not expected to be pounded by heavy April

showers any time soon, the next week will feature low clouds, fog and

drizzle, at least in the early morning hours, said Noel Isla,

meteorologist for the National Weather Service in San Diego.

“We’re definitely going into the dry season,” he said. “But mild

showers are common in the springtime. It’s pretty normal -- the June

gloom.”

But the drizzles are no indication that this is going to be an El Nino

year as some seem to believe, Isla said.

Highs are expected to be in the mid- to high 60s the rest of the week.
