Pirates win streak ends at 5 games

Anthony Paterno hit a home run and Brandon Visnoski limited the

opposition to five hits in a complete game effort as the Dodgers handed

the Pirates their first loss of the season, 4-3.

The Dodgers were lead by Paterno, who hit his second home run of the

season, and the foursome of Nick Duchene, Kyle Martin, Billy Judd and

Mark Miller, all of whom doubled and singled.

Matt Fockler walked and scored a run and Visnoski also singled to aid

his pitching cause.

The Pirates’ offense was paced by singles by Matt Bublitz and Matt

Seymore.

Pirates 4, Cardinals 1

The Pirates win streak reached five games as they upended the

previously unbeaten Cardinals, 4-1.

Kyle Higashioka struck out 11, walked two, gave up four hits and

allowed just one run to the Cardinals, which averted the shutout by

scoring in the team’s final at-bat.

The Pirates took a 2-0 second-inning lead behind singles by Anthony

Paterno, Matt Seymour and Matt Bublitz.

Paterno also hit his first home run of the season in the fourth inning

and was followed by a Seymour single and RBI single by Trevor Robinson.

Aaron Amaral, who finished with two hits to lead the Cardinals,

delivered an RBI double in the sixth inning to score Josh Amaral, who had

drawn a walk.

Austin Rovazzini had the other hit for the Cardinals.

Carl Eberts pitched a complete game for the Cardinals with four

strikeouts to go with two walks and five hits.

MINOR B DIVISION

Yankees 12, Cardinals 5

The Yankees trailed, 5-0, through three innings before storming back

for 12 runs and the victory.

Jyle Chen and James Butts combined on the mound to strike out 16

Cardinals, with Butts entering the game in the fourth inning. He went on

to relinquish one hit while striking out nine.

Butts also figured in the offensive onslaught with two hits and two

runs scored.

Zack Jezulin, Christian Miller and Ryan Rodrigues all singled twice

and scored one run and Steven Malone, Ryan Ortolf and Tyler Fields each

had a single and scored a run.

Cardinal pitchers Trevor Becker, John Kenny and Matt Reed combined to

strike out 10.
