Prep softball: Newport denied by Warriors

NEWPORT BEACH - Newport Harbor High softball coach Jess Martinson

said the Sailors failed to capitalize in the second and sixth innings and

lost, 1-0, to Sea View League visitor Woodbridge Thursday.

The Sailors (13-6, 0-4 in league) had runners on first and second with

one out in the second inning and did not score, and then with the same

scenario they didn’t score in the sixth.

Newport collected one hit, a double by junior shortstop Athena

Vasquez. Woodbridge (2-1 in league) posted a triple and two singles to

score a run in the fourth.
