Mailbag - April 19, 2002

The under-grounding of our street is almost complete. Any day now the

poles and wires will be coming down. How unfortunate that when the

project was first proposed the concerns of everyone in the neighborhood

were not adequately addressed.

If some of our best friends love to hug trees, is it any wonder there

are pole-huggers among us who are not less passionate in their

attachments? Why can’t we understand that when we indiscriminately denude

the environment, we are depriving them of irreplaceable emotional

outlets?

The next time an under-grounding proposal comes up for discussion

anywhere in Laguna, I would urge all pole-huggers to come out of the

closet and make their feelings known to the community. Remember, this is

your town as much as anyone else’s.
