Salernos knock Cards from ranks of unbeaten

The Salernos picked up their third win of the season and in the

process knocked the San Clemente Cardinals from the ranks of the unbeaten

as they claimed a 3-2 victory in juniors action.

A consistent Salernos hitting attack saw Trevor Pierce and Stephen

Chapman each go three for four, Donny Sand, Nathan Pickett and Ryan

McCarter each had two hits and Patrick Curran also singled.

McCarter also came up with a clutch defensive play at a critical point

in the game when he made a catch in the outfield, then threw to second

base to double up a runner and end a San Clemente scoring threat.

Pierce also came up with a defensive gem later in the game as his

over-the-shoulder catch on the grass behind second base denied the

Cardinals another rally.
