Music review

Laguna’s essence and comfort oozes chill. Not as in a chilled drink,
or a chilled glass, but as in “chill out.”
The comfort often found in everyone’s abode soaks up relaxing vibes
and chaos is usually not invited. For this reason my music pick for the
week is appropriately titled “The Chillout Session.”
The variety of artists found on “The Chillout Session” has the comfort
zone element in mind. Each artist keeps the speed of their songs to a
low, slow, minimum enticing relaxation. The double CD starts with
England’s “Massive Attack” leading into “Zero 7” with their track “Give
it Away.” It sounds similar to the British duo “Air” who hit the scene
with “Moon Safari” a few years back.
“Radiohead” follows “Zero 7” with “Climbing up the Walls,” which
coincidently is remixed by “Zero 7.” The lovely “Bozoo Bajou” made its
way into the Spectrum last year with rave reviews. I’m thrilled to hear
them on “The Chillout Session.” As I listen to “Down and Out” now I can’t
help but to let out an “ahhhh.”
Other artists to unveil on “The Chillout Session” include
“Underworld,” “Tranquility Bass,” “Siqur Ros” and “The Future Sound of
London.”
All these artists have a similar goal: to relax our state of being
through music. Collectively they do this well throughout the CD without
interruption or discord.
