A memorial service for Joanne B. Stern, a longtime Whittier Law School

professor, is scheduled to be held at 4 p.m. Monday at Whittier Law

School.

Ms. Stern died March 21 from injuries she suffered in a fall at her

Costa Mesa home. She was 56.

Ms. Stern, who specialized in health law, had conducted research in

the field and written numerous articles on the subject. She was the

founder of Whittier Law School’s annual health law symposium designed for

lawyers and health-care professionals.

She joined the school in 1978 after several years of experience as a

professional. Ms. Stern was a project attorney with the National Economic

Development Law Project in Berkeley. She had also served as senior

attorney for the National Health Law Program in Los Angeles.

She is survived by her two sisters Marjorie Stern and Lydia Winner.

The law school has established a scholarship fund in Ms. Stern’s name.
