Lauding the arts in Orange County

The third annual Orange County Arts Awards ceremony, themed

“Celebrating Creativity and Community Through the Arts,” honored

Newport-Mesa people and groups last week for outstanding cultural

achievements.

Judith Morr, executive vice president at the Orange County Performing

Arts Center, received the Cultural Legacy Award/Artistic Visionary.

Costa Mesa residents John and Sandy Daniels were honored in the

Outstanding Arts Patron/Individual category for their philanthropy with

Orange County arts groups.

The Irvine Barclay Theatre received the Outstanding Arts

Organization/Multi-Disciplinary award.

The Committees of the Philharmonic Society, a group based in Irvine

but with a heavy Newport-Mesa fan base, took home the Outstanding

Volunteer/Support Group award.

The Pacific Symphony Orchestra’s education programs, based in Santa

Ana and also patronized by Newport-Mesa, received the award for

Outstanding Arts Educator/Professional Arts Organization.

The City of Costa Mesa’s Child Care and Youth Services Committee

recently released an updated “Teen Activities and Services Directory”

listing more than 90 opportunities for teens to get involved locally.

libraries, recreation places, teen service centers and at

Hampton Callaway, Sedaka at the Pops

The Pacific Symphony Orchestra recently announced a talent-heavy

lineup including the Righteous Brothers and Ann Hampton Callaway for its

2002-03 Pops Season.

The duo of Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield, better known as the

Righteous Brothers, will open the series Oct. 4-5 as they perform with

the Pacific Symphony Orchestra.

A Tribute to Rodgers & Hammerstein and Andrew Lloyd Webber will follow

Nov. 15-16.

Michael Feinstein’s Holiday Romance will make for a merry winter show

Dec. 13-14, Canadian Grammy-winning songstress Anne Murray will perform

Feb. 7-8, the Canadian Brass quintet will perform March 14-15 and

Tony-Award winner Ann Hampton Callaway will perform April 4-5.

Neil Sedaka will conclude the Pops season May 9-10.

Tickets to each concert are $26-$80. Season tickets are $147 to $532.

Concerts will be performed at the Orange County Performing Arts Center,

600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa.
