Courtesy Auto downs Quicksilver 5
Mike Sciacca
Courtesy Auto scored six runs and ran roughshod on the base paths in
the first inning Monday and never looked back in beating Quiksilver,
14-5, in Laguna Beach Little League baseball action.
Michael Maxsenti’s two-RBI triple began the onslaught, Travis Woloson
had an RBI triple and also stole home. Doubles by Logan Schoembs and
Spike Jackson and the base stealing of Chase VanPetegem aided the six-run
outburst.
Charlie Jackson singled and stole three bases in the second inning --
including home, and Clark and Woloson did the same as Courtesy Auto
opened up a 9-1 advantage.
Quiksilver drew to within 9-4 when Will Marquette doubled and later
stole home. Robbie McKnight and Sean Pigden each stole home.
Courtesy Auto responded in the fourth inning with an RBI single by
Clark and a two-RBI triple by Maxsenti to make it a 13-4 game.
Schoembs stole three more bases in the fifth inning, including home,
to score the final run for Courtesy Auto.
Quiksilver also scored its final run with a steal of home plate, this
time by Mattingly.

Rotary 13, SportsWorld 1
Doubles by Roy Herbert and Austin Hyden and a three-run home run by
Chris Smith -- all in the bottom of the fifth inning -- broke open a
close game and sent Rotary on its way to a 12-run victory.
Rotary was clinging to a 2-1 lead heading into its fifth at-bat when
the trio of Herbert, Hyden and Smith came up with their clutch hits.
Pitching and defense dominated play early, and it took Ross Hamera’s
bases loaded walk to give SportsWorld a 1-0 second inning lead. That lead
could have been worse, but Rotary starting pitcher Nick Witte came up
with three consecutive strikeouts to get out of the jam.
Rotary responded in the bottom half of the frame and drew even when
Herbert walked and scored on Will Bonsey’s single to left field.
Rotary then grabbed its first lead in the third inning when Witte
aided his own cause when by beating out an infield single and reached
third base on an error.
He later scored on Jack Monroe’s perfectly executed bunt.
Hyden relieved Witte in the fourth inning and shut down SportsWorld
the remainder of the way. He extended his consecutive scoreless innings
streak to eight over the last three games. During that stretch, he has
struck out 16, walked one and given up just two hits.
Shane Springer singled off both Rotary pitchers and finished with two
hits to lead SportsWorld.
In the game-turning bottom-half of the fifth inning, Rotary sent 14
batters to the plate and racked up all 11 runs with two outs in the
inning. Hyden came up with a two-RBI double, Smith hit his three-run shot
and Bonsey had an RBI single to score the game’s final run.
