Rotary collected a pair of Majors Division victories this week in

Laguna Beach Little League play as they shut out the Fire Fighters, 10-0,

and defeated SportsWorld, 13-1.

Rotary 10, Fire Fighters 0

Behind five innings of no-hit pitching from Austin Hyden and Nick

Witte and error-free defensive support, Rotary blanked the Fire Fighters.

Witte held the Fire Fighters without a hit while striking out five

through three innings.

Dylan McDonald had a bunt RBI, Witte, Hyden and Will Bonsey each had

RBI singles, Hyden also brought home a run with a sacrifice fly, Jack

Monroe and Chris Smith each had a hit and scored a run, Lorenzo Torriero

and Roy Herbert each scored twice, and Witte, Torriero, Herbert and Cook

finished with two hits apiece to lead Rotary.

Bonsey took the mound for Rotary in the sixth inning to complete the

shutout. Michael Lewis ripped a clean single up the middle in the inning

to give the Fire Fighters their lone hit.

Rotary 13, SportsWorld 1

Rotary rode a three-run home run from Chris Smith and doubles from Roy

Herbert and Austin Hyden to break open a tight 2-1 ballgame in the bottom

of the fifth inning.

Rotary posted 11 runs on 14 hits in the decisive frame -- all coming

with two outs in the inning.

A hit batter and bases loaded walk scored the first two runs before

Hyden followed with a bases loaded to extend Rotary’s lead to 6-1. Smith

delivered another big blow with his three-run home run to deep

left-center field for a 9-1 advantage. Will Bonsey’s RBI single scored

the game’s final run.

Pitching and defense dominated the game early. Rotary’s Nick Witte

gave up just one run on three hits while registering five strikeouts in

three innings work before being relieved by Hyden.

Jordan Ginger pitched a solid three innings for SportsWorld.

It took a bases loaded walk by Ross Hamera to give SportsWorld a 1-0

second inning lead, but Witte got out of a bases loaded jam in the inning

with three consecutive strikeouts to end the threat.
