Newport Harbor Baseball Association: Kordich slams two homers

Michael Kordich crushed two home runs to provide momentum for the

Corona del Mar Mets, who reeled off two wins last week in Newport Harbor

Baseball Association Pony Division action.

First, in a 7-3 win over the Athletics, Kordich pounded a deep shot

for a home run to lead off the first inning. Also for the Mets, Tom Money

pitched five innings, allowing just one run.

J.R. Dion also pitched well for the A’s, while teammate Jaik Ballback

scored a run and contributed steady pitching.

Kordich’s second homer came in a 6-3 win over the Cardinals. This

time, Money pitched seven innings and gave up just one earned run. Ryan

Lance and Kyle Schekluth helped the Cardinals stay in the game with their

pitching and their hitting.

In NHBA Bronco Division action:

Braves 9, Yankees 8 - Niko Hernandez scored the winning run in the

fifth inning, sliding under the tag at home after Spencer Smith’s fly

ball to right field. The Yankees put the go-ahead runs on base in the

bottom of the seventh, but second baseman Bryce Fuller made a clutch

catch to end the threat and seal the Braves’ third straight victory.

The Braves’ Justin Jones contributed two doubles, plus he tagged out

the potential tying run at home and pitched a scoreless final inning to

earn the save.

Cameron Chase led the Yankees, pitching two scoreless innings while

striking out two.

Reds 12, Yankees 5 - Reds pitchers Jeffrey Frum, Spencer Richley and

Nick Svendsen combined for 11 strikeouts and seven innings of work. The

Reds offense was led by Troy Seeber and his two doubles, while Stephen

Bryska and Timothy Regan also contributed hits. Catcher Ronnie Dunmore

threw out two runners.

Reds 11, Mets 3 - Svendsen led the Reds’ hot hitting attack with a

3-for-4 performance that included two doubles. Seeber, Dunmore, Richley,

Bryska and Frum also chipped in big hits.

Svendsen was also solid with his pitching in three innings of relief,

allowing no earned runs and recording eight strikeouts. Frum also pitched

well in three innings, striking out five batters.

Eric Bonn and Ned Lyon led the Mets.

Reds 4, Dodgers 3 - Richley walked three times and scored three of the

Reds’ four runs. Seeber contributed three innings of pitching work that

came with four strikeouts, and Svendsen went three innings.

Dunmore, Regan, Evan Fullerton and Eric Holland helped the Reds earn

the win with their sound defense.

In NHBA Pinto Division National action:

The Dodgers battled the Diamondbacks, as the Dodgers produced one of

their highlights of the season. Shortstop Blake Bell and first baseman

Logan Friend teamed for a double play. The Dodgers also received solid

efforts from Kyle Regan (two hits), Nolan Mena, Jake Barber and catcher

Jacob Swain.

When the Dodgers took on the Astros the Dodgers were led by their

pitching, including Mena, Bell and Robbie Rettig. Regan, Kent Willett and

Brooks Westervelt provided solid defense.
