OJAI - Corona del Mar High’s Cameron Ball and Garrett Snyder,

seeded No. 1 in the boys CIF Interscholastic doubles at the 102nd Ojai

Valley Tennis Tournament, swept to the title Saturday at Libbey Park.

Ball, a senior and uncommitted to a college, and Snyder, a junior,

defeated No. 2-seeded team of Eric McKean and Ari Rosenthal of Brentwood

in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, to complete the tournament without giving up

a set in five matches.

“What a great Ojai! I’ve never seen a stronger doubles team,” CdM

Coach Tim Mang said. “They were incredible ... they were all alone out

there. No team really challenged them. It was very impressive. All the

college coaches were all sitting around watching.”

Ball and Snyder are undecided on whether they will play doubles in the

CIF Southern Section individuals this year. Last year, CdM’s Brian Morton

and Snyder won the CIF doubles title, after reaching the finals at Ojai.

In the boys 16s singles, Newport Beach’s Kaes Van’t Hof defeated Cale

Planck of Palm Desert, 6-1, 6-7 (1), 6-2, in the semifinals, then lost in

the finals to top-seeded Yevgeny Supeko of Ojai, 6-4, 6-3.

In the boys 14s singles, Costa Mesa’s John Nanosky lost in the

semifinals to eventual champion Leif Sunderland of Malibu, 6-1, 6-0.

In the women’s open singles, former Estancia High standout and pro

tour player Dina Birch-McBride (Woodland Hills) advanced to the finals

with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 semifinal win over Lashawnn Jones of Los Angeles.

The top-seeded Birch-McBride, the defending champion, will face

second-seeded Stacy Margolin Potter of Ojai in today’s finals.

In community college women’s play, Orange Coast College’s Stephanie

Chang was eliminated in the singles quarterfinals by Riverside’s Alisha

Brown, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.
