OCC names rowing center for coach

Orange Coast College recently named its rowing center after retired

president and head crew coach David A. Grant.

The christening took place April 21 at the boathouse on North Lido

Channel in Newport Beach.

This will be Grant’s final year as head coach after 38 nonconsecutive

seasons. He took three years off while serving as college president.

Grant was inducted into the Sailing Hall of Fame in 1975. He played a

major role in the establishment of the Rowing Center, which has evolved

from a Quonset hut to a steel building with a 3,277-square-foot Nautical

Library.
