Edison High School seniors and varsity basketball players Jonathan

Nehrig and Kristen Chidley have each been awarded plaques and $500 as

winners of the 2002 Harry W. Montague Basketball Memorial Award and

Scholarship, awarded annually since 1988 in memory of the former director

of the Edison Community Center and founder of the Huntington Beach Parks

and Recreation basketball program. . . . Ryan Dubose of Huntington Beach,

majoring in English and psychology at Georgetown University in

Washington, D.C., will receive the Lena Landegger Community Service

award, in the amount of $2500, for his many contributions to community

service as an undergraduate student . . . Marine Corps Pvt. Talana M.

Farrar, 2001 graduate of Huntington Beach High School and daughter of

Theresa F. and Mark A. Farrar of 19161 Delaware St., Huntington Beach,

has completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot,

Parris Island, S.C. . . . Kathryn McBride Shuttleworth of Huntington

Beach has been named to the winter quarter 2002 dean’s list at Savannah

College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. . . . Marine Corps Lance

Cpl. Nicholas W. Haynes, 2000 graduate of Marina High School and son of

Linda K. Payne of 17311 Rob Roy Circle, Huntington Beach and Clayton N.

Haynes was recently promoted to his current rank while serving with 2nd

assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp

Lejeune, N.C. . . .
