HB Pro/Junior Surf Series this weekend

The 2002 HB Pro/Junior Surf Series will run on the south side of the

Huntington Beach Pier Friday through Sunday.

Friday’s schedule includes the start of Pro/Junior and Macho Airshow

competition at 8 a.m., followed by a full day of first round competition.

On Saturday, the Pro/Junior and Macho Airshow division competition begins

at approximately 6:30 a.m., followed by the second round of competition

and first round competition for the Amateur, Super Groms and Boys’

divisions.

The airshow will again be held at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday with the finals

of the Pro/Junior and Macho Airshow to follow.

The winner of the Pro/Junior Division will win a $2,000 prize.

Jankowiak wins first pro race

Huntington Beach cyclist Dane Jankowiak won his first race at the

professional level last weekend by taking first place at the Temecula

Road Race. He attacked from a small group in the last few miles of the

race, which included teammate Thurlow Rogers, and emerged from the pack

to cross the finish line first. Jankowiak, a first year senior rider for

Team Mercury USA, is a former Junior national champion road racer.

Huntington Beach Jr. All-American sign up

Huntington Beach Junior All-American Football will hold the first of

three player and cheerleader sign ups for its 2002 Fall season on the

weekend of May 18-19 at Ocean View High School. The next two registration

dates are June 8-9 and June 29-30. Sign ups will be taken on the lawn

area adjacent to the parking lot facing Warner Avenue, just east of

Goldenwest Street.

Beach Cities Stars claim top honors

The Beach Cities Stars, a local dance team comprised of girls ages

3-18, played host to STARS National California Regional Dance Competition

last weekend. Six West Coast teams competed against each other and Beach

Cities won two of the event’s top three honors: regional sweepstakes and

regional sportsmanship awards.

Beach Cities performed 25 routines, each receiving superior and

excellent ratings. The Stars have qualified for the national competition,

which will be held in Las Vegas June 20-22.

The Beach Cities Stars, who have performed at Los Angeles Clippers

halftime shows and on the ESPN Sideline series this year, are under the

direction of Marilyn Seller, assistants Peaches Silveroli and Elizabeth

Dietrich, and choreographers Alona Fulton, Summer Keer, Tara Pokorney and

Holly Salazar.
