Community college swimming: Nelson leads the Pirates

PASADENA - Orange Coast College sophomore Jennifer Nelson led the

Pirates’ women’s swim team, which is in sixth place, on the first day of

the California Community College Swimming and Diving Championships at

Pasadena City College Thursday.

The men’s team is 11th in the 28-school field.

Nelson finished third in the finals of the 100-yard individual medley

(1:02.01), while teammate Ashley Lowden came in seventh (1:03.52).

Nelson, Lowden, Stephanie Wood and Melissa Delzeit finished third in

the 400 medley relay (4:09.27), and Nelson, Lowden, Katie Sackett and

Shoshana Kline finished sixth in the 200 freestyle relay. Sackett

finished 17th in the 50 free.

The OCC men were led by Tyson Beamer, who was sixth in the 50 free

(21.40), while Beamer, Matt Demartino, Billy Swanso and Jack Yarbrough

teamed to finish sixth in the 200 free relay.

The meet continues today at 10 a.m. and Saturday, beginning at 9:30

a.m.
