Golf: Newport Harbor’s Sowers improves

LONG BEACH

- Newport Harbor freshman Brandon Sowers shaved four strokes off his

first day’s score at the Sea View League finals, but it wasn’t quite

enough to advance to the CIF Individual Tournament May 13 at Tijeras

Creek Golf Club.

Sowers shot 80-76--156 to finish ninth for the two-day finals held

Tuesday and Wednesday at the par-72 El Dorado Golf Course in Long Beach.

The top six players move on to CIF.

Newport Harbor sophomore David Motschenbacher shot 82-84--166, good

for 16th place, said Newport Harbor coach Marianne Towersey.

David Yoon of Woodbridge shot 71-72--143, and was the medalist.

The top 22, and ties, advance from the May 13 tournament to the CIF

Individual Finals May 20 at Canyon County Club.
