The city, Music in the Park, Inc. and the Festival of Arts are

sponsoring a Cinco de Mayo concert at the Festival of Arts grounds on

Sunday.

Chico will be performing from 5 to 7 p.m. to celebrate.

“Chico performs a lively array of traditional and contemporary jazz

and salsa,” said Sian Poeschl, arts coordinator.

Well known in the area, Chico has been around for 29 years performing

their own style of Latin music in both English and Spanish. The exciting

ensemble consists of seven musicians with diverse sounds of drums,

congas, guitar, flute, trumpet, trombone and vocals.

“We’re trying to have a diversity, we’ll have 10 concerts this year

and hope each will be different, offering a variety of music genres and

styles,” Poeschl said.

“We are thrilled to bring back the band Chico to recognize Cinco de

Mayo.”

It is exciting to be collaborating with both Music in the Park, Inc.

and the Festival of Arts, offering the opportunity for residents to enjoy

free concerts in our public parks,” said Poeschl.

“It’s a great way of kicking off the Music in the Park series. This

year we are trying to expand the number of concerts,” explained Poeschl.

“We are trying to offer year-round art opportunities and this is a way

of doing it,” Poeschl said.

The event will be the first Cinco de Mayo concert that the city has

held.
