The Coastline Pilot went to the rehearsal of the Top of the World

Elementary School, El Morro Elementary School and Laguna Community

Concert Band and asked kids: “Who is your favorite composer or musician

and why?”

“My favorite composer is Katherine Roland because her music is very

contemporary, catchy and has a good beat. Her music is the kind that gets

stuck in your head and you know she worked hard at it because it came out

so well.”

“Charlie ‘Bird’ Parker! I’ve learned so much about playing the

saxophone by listening to his music.”

“My favorite composer is Bach. I play a lot of his pieces on the

piano. His music makes me feel happy when I play it.”

“I have two favorites: Bach and Chopin. Whenever I go to my grandma’s

house she is always playing classical music and I’ve grown up on it.”
