The city and school district plan to work together to find ways to

decrease drug and alcohol abuse by Laguna Beach youths.

On Monday, an orientation meeting is planned for the joint youth

Members of the City Council and the Laguna Beach Unified School Board

have suggested the group’s steering committee consist of a cross-section

of the community.

Included in the list are one member of the Board of Trustees, a Laguna

Beach City Council member, Supt. Theresa Daem, Laguna Beach High School

Principal Nancy Blade, Thurston Middle School Principal Chris Duddy,

three parents from the high school or middle school and a district

counselor.

The orientation meeting is scheduled for noon at the school district’s
