JC track and field: OCC athletes advance
Five Orange Coast College athletes will make their way to Santa
Barbara for the California Community College Track and Field Finals
Friday and Saturday after competing in the Southern California Finals,
completed Saturday at San Diego State.
Michelle Icban qualified in the 5,000 meters with a 17:40.94 clocking.
She will also compete in the 10,000.
Lindsay Allen finished second in the 3,000 steeplechase (11:41.52),
and fifth in the 5,000 (18:33.25) and will compete in the 3,000
steeplechase in Santa Barbara.
Julie Kroening will compete in the 400 intermediate hurdles after
placing fourth (1:05.85) Saturday. Kroening also finished 11th in the
javelin (86-10).
Ginger Liechtly cleared 4-10 to place sixth and qualify in the high
jump.
Jennifer Finaldi will compete in the pole vault in Santa Barbara after
clearing 11-0, good for third place Saturday.
The OCC women’s team finished sixth in Southern California.
Joel Guzman finished 11th in the 3,000 steeplechase (10:17.77).
Natalie St. Andre placed 15th in the 5,000 (19:54.57), while Jason Foutch
finished 17th (16:06.79).
Keinan Briggs was eighth in the 110 high hurdles (15.59), while Chuck
Loo finished ninth (16.01).
Ann Garton placed sixth in the 400 hurdles(1:06.58).
Shaun Walker placed eighth (175-10), and Ryan McHugh 11th (168-4) in
the javelin.
James Canetti placed (45-2 1/2 in the shot put), Mikael Persson (14-6
in the pole vault), and Briggs (43-8 in the triple jump) all finished
10th.The OCC women’s 1,600 relay finished eighth (4:06.95) with Simone
Peront, Garton, Kroening and Jene Goshay.
