CORONA DEL MAR - Corona del Mar High junior Pat Ahearn and freshman

Nick Gingold made the most of their opportunity and helped lead the Sea

Kings’ boys tennis team to a 16-2 Southern Section Division V first-round

victory over visiting Sage Hill Tuesday.

Playing in singles, the CdM duo, which mainly competed on the junior

varsity level throughout the season, stepped up to the spotlight and

swept their sets.

“They had some nice efforts,” said CdM Coach Tim Mang, whose team

improved to 21-2. “They didn’t mess around with their opponents and they

put them away.”

The No. 1 seeded Sea Kings will play the winner of St.

Margaret’s-Beaumont DeAnza match Thursday afternoon.

For Sage Hill, Anthony Milovantsev and John Hamilton earned one

singles victory each. The Lightning, coached by A.G. Longoria, are in

their inaugural season of varsity competition.

The Sea Kings, last year’s undefeated CIF Division V champions, won

all their sets in doubles, featuring the CdM tandems of freshman Wesley

Miller and junior Alex Nguyen, juniors Issei Saida and Jordan Brokelshim,

and juniors Bryan Warsaw and Andrew Hinger.
