Getting extra credit

Teachers at Newport Elementary School were treated to a two-hour

harbor cruise Wednesday in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week.

Although Teacher Appreciation Week took place last week, teachers were

too busy administering the Stanford 9 test to get away, Principal Denise

Knutsen said.

This is the second year the school’s PTA has organized the tiki boat

tour, which is open to all school staffers, including custodians,

secretaries and librarians.

Knutsen said the tour affirms how much dedication teachers put into

their jobs.

“I feel like our community here makes an extra effort to recognize the

teachers for their extra work above and beyond, and this is our way to

show them we appreciate them,” Knutsen said.

The tour was organized by PTA member Candi Scott.
