High School Boys Golf: Sherman charges ahead

COTO DE CAZA - Corona del Mar High junior golfer Nick Sherman shot

an even par-72 in the CIF Southern Section Individual Sectional

tournament on the North Course at Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club

Thursday to join 23 others who will make the trip to Canyon Country Club

Monday to play in the CIF Individual Finals.

Sherman’s 72 was good enough for third place. Woodbridge’s David Yoon

shot a 3-under 69, the best score of the day.

Sherman’s coach at Corona del Mar was thrilled with the effort.

“It’s incredible, considering he’s never played the course before,”

said CdM Coach Mike Starkweather.

Junior Tim Frohling, the other Sea King competing Thursday, shot 81

and missed the cut.

Estancia’s Jason Cassidy, also on the Coto de Caza course for the

first time, started slowly and exited with an 81.
