Newport Harbor Baseball Association: Doubly nice win for Reds

NEWPORT BEACH - Both offenses came to play in the high-scoring

affair that ended with a Reds victory, sending the team to the playoffs.

With the win, the Reds secured third place and a spot in the upcoming

playoffs in the Bronco Division of the Newport Harbor Baseball

Association.

Michael McKay made a solid defensive play, making a diving catch to

help start a double play for the Reds.

Offensively the Reds were led by Nick Svendsen (2 for 3, three RBIs)

who also had seven strikeouts in three innings on the mound; Troy Seeber

(2 for 3, two RBIs, run scored) who pitched an inning, striking out two;

Jeffrey Frum (2 for 3, two runs); Wes Parks (1 for 3, two RBIs); Spencer

Richley (2 for 2, three runs) who had five strikeouts in three innings;

Evan Fullerton (1 for 3, RBI) and Stefan Brysha (RBI, run scored).

Ronnie Dunmore caught one runner stealing, while Timothy Regan and

Eric Holland played soundly on defense.

In other Bronco Division action:

* Braves 12, Red Sox 3 - The Braves ended the season winning eight of

their last 10 games that included Saturday’s win over the Red Sox.

Niko Hernandez led the Braves with the bat and on the mound going 4

for 4 at the plate while striking out six and allowing no runs in three

innings.

Spencer Smith, Ned Lyon (1 for 1, three walks, four runs scored) and

Justin Jones combined with Hernandez to limit the Red Sox to four hits in

the seven-inning game.

Lyon picked off two Red Sox runners to end potential scoring threats

in the sixth inning.

* Giants 11, Reds 7 - Trailing, 6-0, after three innings, the Giants

stormed back on the Reds to win.

The Giants’ 13-hit attack was led by Brock Schuler, Justin Faber, Glen

Christensen and Collin Dennis, who each had two hits.

Drew Littlefair and Schuler held the Reds scoreless for four straight

innings to end the game.

Great defense was provided by Trey LaGrandeur and Pete Hapke.

The Reds started off scoring five in the first as Ronnie Dunmore and

Stefan Brysha led the offense, Wes Parks, Timothy Regan, Evan Fullerton

and Eric Holland all played solid defense.

Jeffrey Frum (two innings, four strikeouts), Troy Seeber (two innings,

four strikeouts) and Spencer Richley (three innings, six strikeouts)

pitched for the Reds.

* Cubs 9, Giants 1 - The Cubs had the bats working as Austin Carden

doubled and Glen Christensen went 2 for 3 for the victorious Cubs.

Carden, Adrian Lucas and Michael Helfrich held the Giants to five

hits.

Trey LaGrandeur, Ian McEwan and Brock Schuler singled for the Giants.

In Pinto National play:

The Dodgers and Marlins squared-off Saturday. Robbie Rettig, Kyle

Regan and Nolan Mena led the Dodgers. Solid defense was provided by Kent

Willett, Brooks Westerveldt, Jacob Swain at catcher, Ross Schwartz and

Jake Barber.

Blake Bell and Logan Friend pitched well.
