JUNE 1

The Academy of Performing Arts Foundation will hold “A Time to

Remember Gala” to support the Academy’s outstanding performing arts

program. Highlights will include excerpts from “Once on This Island,”

“Gypsy,” “Elephant Man” and “You Can’t Take It With You.” In support and

remembrance of our troops far away from home, students and representative

service personnel will be accepting donations of videos, DVDs, music CDs

and books. Patriotic dress is suggested. The gala will begin at 7:30

JUNE 2

The Golden West College International Symphonic Band will begin this

summer’s free “Concerts on the Green” series at 5 p.m., June 2. Families

are encouraged to bring a picnic and watch the sunset to great music. The

Congregation B’nai Tzedek of Fountain Valley in conjunction with Sts.

Simon and Jude Catholic Church and the Church of Religious Science will a

host a tribute dinner, “In the Spirit of Community.” Rabbi Stephen J.

The City of Huntington Beach will hold the On Course golf tournament

to benefit senior services in the community. The tournament will start at

The Golden West College Mainstage Theater will present “The Diviners,”

a story about a friendship between a disturbed young man and a

The Huntington Beach Concert Band is an all-volunteer community

organization with approximately 70 members, led by music director Tom

Ridley. Founded in February 1973, the band plays a wide variety of

musical styles -- from classical, to Broadway, to contemporary. They

perform frequently at events and locations throughout Southern

California, including Disneyland, Leisure World, Huntington Beach Pier

Plaza, and Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. The Huntington Beach Concert

Band is open to all interested musicians age 18 and over. Rehearsals are
