1. MEMORIAL DAY SALUTE. The third annual student-supported patriotic

event to mark Memorial Day will be held at 11 a.m. at Newport Harbor High

School, below the clock tower. The event began in 2000 and is held every

Friday before Memorial Day to remember and honor those Newport Harbor

2. CANOE THE BAY. Take a two-hour tour with a trained naturalist

through the Back Bay at 8:30 a.m. today. It all starts at Shellmaker

Island. $10 per person. Free for California Wildlife Campaign and Newport

Bay Naturalists and Friends members. The island is at 600 Shellmaker

3. VERY MODERN ART. The Orange County Museum of Art will present the

2002 California Biennial exhibition Sunday through Sept. 8 at 850 San

Clemente Drive, Newport Beach. The works are a reflection of artistic

ideas and styles. Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through

Sunday. $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and students, and free for members
